Les Benjamins has opened the doors to its new Bagdat Avenue flagship store, marking the brand’s third retail space in its hometown of Istanbul. Unlike any other of the brand’s stores, this historic space – which was once home to Louis Vuitton – houses a range of new season collections as well as pieces from Nike, adidas and other sportswear brands.
In collaboration with regular Les Benjamins contributor Dong-Ping Wong, the 1,500sqm location is adapted to reflect the brand's typical fusion of duality in design. The concrete-plastered interiors with cold, industrial-style walls and countertops are married with traditional Turkish furniture made of warmer woods and golden metals. Running from the sneaker room to the changing cubicles, a deep red carpet is also used in a nod to Asian heritage.
The brand’s founder and creative director Bunyamin Aydin hopes this space will attract Istanbul’s wider community as it carves out a multi-purpose hub with custom-made OJAS vinyl players and two center speakers. Speaking on the new store he says, “It has to feel like home. My office, studio and atelier will be on top, so it's going to be a very different feeling for me. I'm excited to start this new chapter.”
To commemorate the opening, the brand has crafted an exclusive capsule collection inspired by its distinctive interiors. T-shirts, bucket hats and tote bags in the drop come playfully customized with original blueprints and coordinates of the Bagdat Avenue store.
