Tiffany & Co. Shares How Kendrick Lamar’s Diamond “Crown of Thorns” Was Crafted

Tiffany & Co. has just released a detailed look at the making of the "Crown of Thorns" for Kendrick Lamar. Seen wearing it during Louis Vuitton's recent Spring/Summer 2023 runway show and his Glastonbury performance, Lamar worked with his longtime creative collaborator and pgLang co-founder Dave Free and Tiffany & Co. for the highly-crafted piece of jewelry.

The "Crown of Thorns" takes one of the most widely recognized symbols of religious iconography and recreates it in high-polished titanium in 14 individual parts made up of 50 rose-inspired thorns. It features over 8,000 cobblestone micro-pavé set diamonds (137 ct. total) hand-set in Northern Italy. The final headpiece took 10 months and over 1,300 hours of labor split between four artisans.

"Kendrick Lamar represents the artistry, risk-taking creativity, and relentless innovation that has also defined Tiffany & Co. for nearly two centuries," says Alexandre Arnault, Executive Vice President, Product, and Communication, Tiffany & Co. "We are proud and incredibly excited to work with a visionary like Kendrick in realizing his vision for the crown."
