BVLGARI has presented its "Amerigo Vespucci" special edition watch, paying tribute to the namesake Italian Navy ship and its heritage.
Drawing on a color palette inspired by the revered vessel, the "Aluminum GMT" model employs a luminescent arrow-shaped hand for time-reading and two contrasting 12-hour zones in black and yellow for distinguishing between day and night. Recalling the Vespucci's gilded black railings, the watch's hand independently adjusts when the titanium crown is moved to its second position, while the Super-LumiNova®-coated hour-markers and white hands intend to evoke a starry night at sea.
The titanium case is engraved with the ship's motto: "Non chi cominicia ma quel che persevere," meaning, "Not he who begins, but who perseveres." Meanwhile, the robust-yet-flexible rubber strap reminds wearers of BVLGARI's signature Aluminum design codes.
Notably, the 40 mm-diameter watch is equipped with a water resistance of up to 100 metres.
"Like a challenge to the commands of time, the Bulgari Aluminium GMT sets a new course with this Amerigo Vespucci Special Edition, sailing in the wake of the great explorers," reads a statement from the brand. "It is a celebration of the discoveries that revolutionised the era, as well as of perseverance and team spirit. Whether on gentle waves, rough seas or dry land, it renews the intensity of a unique experience and extends an invitation to savour the voluptuous joys of travel, while looking confidently to the future."
BVLGARI will only create 1,000 units of its special edition "Amerigo Vespucci" watch. Take a look at the timepiece above.
Elsewhere in watches, French microbrand Serica has dropped a $1,300 USD 5303-3 Diver.
