Considered to be one of the rarest Dunks of all time, the eBay x Nike SB Dunk Low is suggested to make a return this year but with a twist, according to sources. The style was first introduced back in 2003 with only three pairs to hit production – one sold at auction for $26,000, followed by the second pair sliced into pieces, and the last gifted to the late Sandy Bodecker in 2008 who was instrumental in the sportswear giant’s SB and football divisions as a retirement gift.
As suggested, the color scheme derives from eBay’s signature colors and according to sources, the 2022 pair will reflect the featured image below, however, it will incorporate “clear” stripes across the sole and side panels to symbolize the areas where the original eBay x Nike Dunk Low sample was sliced. Additionally, reports suggest the heel panels will incorporate the traditional SB branding instead of the exclusive eBay logo.
20 years after its initial debut, the eBay x Nike SB Dunk Low will be making a return. Beginning today, the sneaker will be available via charity auctions that benefit the Bodecker Foundation. The shoe will come housed in a special box that features a pair with one shoe intact, along with a commemorative saw. Additionally, the eBay Dunks will also release December 15th at select skate shops and December 17th via SNKRS.
In Jordan Brand news, the Air Jordan 9 Fire Red releases tomorrow.
UPDATE (12/12): Nike has confirmed that the eBay x Nike SB Dunk Low “Sandy Bodecker” will release via SNKRS on December 17th for $130.
This is the stuff of skateboarding mythology. With only two original pairs made in 2003, these kicks were already some of the rarest. One pair was sawed to shreds and the remaining pair was auctioned off to the highest bidder at a fundraising event. The charitable contribution to Portland area skateparks was greatly appreciated, but like, who bought the shoes? The identity of the highest bidder remained a mystery for years, until it was finally revealed that the buyer was none other than the groundbreaking Sandy Bodecker. His influence on skateboarding and Nike can’t be overstated, and this auction tale is just another piece of that legacy. We don’t say he’s the man who put the SB in Nike SB for no reason. Respect.
