Instagram Tests a TikTok-Like Full-Screen Main Feed

While Instagram has already begun testing a semi "full-screen" view for its main feed last month, Mark Zuckerberg has now previewed a fully edge-to-edge feed on his Stories and promises that the new design will soon be tested by some people in the community. "We want to make it easier to discover content and connect with friends," writes Zuckerberg. "Photos are still an important part of Instagram, and we’re working on ways to improve the way they show up in a full-screen Feed too. Some people will start seeing this test soon. Excited to hear your feedback!"

The latest iteration of the full-screen design keeps the tabs at the bottom of the page and features add post, activity, and messaging icons on the top right corner. While Zuckerberg points to the changes as part of a broader initiative to rely on AI-driven recommendations, the feed layout is heavily reminiscent of TikTok's. Zuckerberg previously stated that the company will be focusing on young users and Reels, and with Meta's Facebook revamp announcement also in mind, Meta is working hard to compete with its booming social media rival.

Elsewhere in tech, Elon Musk's Boring Company will extend its Las Vegas tunnel system to 55 stations.
