With Breitling’s Surfer Squad leading the new collection’s campaign, the colorful new SuperOcean is meant for everything from surfing, swimming or simply hitting the beach, boasting 300m water resistance.
Presented in four different sizes - 46mm, 44mm, 42mm and 36mm - the new SuperOcean collection includes nods to its stripped back past while including contemporary concessions such as a seconds hand and a ceramic bezel ring.
The collection is presented with stainless steel, steel/gold and subtly reactive bronze cases. Most models feature unidirectional bezels, while the 46mm sizes use bidirectional bezels with a patented lock.
The watches are available on either rubber straps or three-row metal bracelets with folding clasps and micro adjustment mechanisms. Each reference in the new collection is powered by the 4Hz Breitling Calibre 17 automatic movement with 38-hour power reserve.
The collection includes a 42mm limited edition designed with champion surfer Kelly Slater. The 1,000 piece edition features an orange dial with military green rubber strap, inspired by a watch Slater’s dad wore while surfing.
“I’ve been co-creating watches with Breitling for the past few years but this one, in particular, is very personal.” Said Slater. “It’s inspired by my late father, who had a watch with an orange face that he used to wear surfing for as long as I can remember. The green and orange together is a color scheme I used to like for the airbrushes on my boards growing up. That combination has always stuck with me.”
The 2022 SuperOcean collection is out now, including the $4,900 USD SuperOcean Automatic 42 Kelly Slater Limited Edition.
Elsewhere in watches, Thai street artist Benzilla reworks Maurice Lacroix AIKON #tide.
