Experience iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 Beta in the Freshest Manner Possible by Performing a Clean Install

Without a doubt, the best and quickest way to experience the new iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 beta is by performing an over the air installation. This way, your files and settings are retained, no cables or computers are involved, and you end up with Apple’s hottest new software as well.

However, if you want to experience iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 beta in the freshest manner possible, as if you are buying a new device from Apple, then clean install is the route you should take. Before going ahead, please know that this is something not everyone should do as things can get tricky. If you are aware of all that then read more.

First and foremost, make sure your iPhone and iPad is compatible with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. Check out the complete list below:

Once that has been established that your device is in the list, it’s time to sign up to the Apple Developer Program by going here. It costs $99 and a cost which is unavoidable if you want to test out the software right now. However, you can skip the fee if you wait for the public beta program to go live. It may take a while, but it’s worth the wait if you don’t want to spend a dime.

Once signed up and signed in, head over to Develop > Downloads and download the latest Xcode beta onto your Mac and install it and set it up as well.

In the same Downloads section you’ll find the iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 developer beta firmware image files. Download the one(s) which are compatible with your iPhone and iPad and save it to your desktop.

It’s a good time to backup everything using iTunes, Finder or iCloud. It’s extremely important that you do this as you will lose all your settings and files on your device. There’s no way of getting anything back unless a backup was properly created and now is the right time to do it.

Step 1. Connect your iPhone and iPad to your Mac using a Lightning cable or USB-C.

Step 2. Once your device is detected, launch Finder.

Step 3. Your device will show up in the left hand side bar. Click on it.

Step 4. Click on the Restore iPhone / iPad button while holding down the left Option key on your keyboard. It will open up a new window.

Step 5. Select the iOS 16 / iPadOS 16 beta IPSW file you downloaded to your Mac from the Apple Developer Program website.

Step 6. Finder will now extract the contents of the update and restore it to your device. This may take a long while so be very patient. This is a great time to make yourself a cup of tea or coffee.

Step 7. Once the restore is complete, you’ll see the Hello screen. Restore the previously created backup or setup your device as a new one, it’s entirely up to you how you want to move forward with this.
