The Galaxy S23 Ultra, despite being a completely different device, looks the same as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. If you have been up to date with the coverage, I have talked about how that is not necessarily bad because the phone design is excellent, to say the least.
Your Galaxy S22 Ultra cases won't fit the new Galaxy S23 despite dimensions being eerily similar
Ever since renders of the Galaxy S23 Ultra started hitting the internet, I wondered whether we would be able to use the cases from the S22 Ultra on the new phone. After all, both phones look the same, and if newer iPhones can use older cases, why not Samsung, right?
Well, that is not the case, as the cases for Galaxy S22 Ultra will not fit the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Yes, both phones have similar dimensions, but there is a minor difference. For instance, the dimensions of the new phone are 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9 mm, whereas the Galaxy S22 Ultra stands at 163.3 x 77.9 x 8.9 mm. Yes, the difference is minute at best, and you'd be forgiven to think that you can use the cases from your older one on the newer one but that is not the case, and this video proves it.
The video clearly shows how the Galaxy S23 Ultra is slightly taller than the cases of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and while it does fit, the camera alignment is off, and the buttons can also be a tad bit hard to press.
To be honest, there is nothing wrong with Samsung's decision to change the dimensions this minutely. Just like that, there is nothing wrong with the fact that you will not be able to use Galaxy S22 Ultra cases on your new Galaxy S23 Ultra, and vice-versa. One could almost say that the new phone has a more refined design as compared to the predecessor and for all the right reasons.
