There are certain tasks that shouldn't take that long to happen and yet they still do. We are obviously talking about renaming files in huge numbers and it's a daunting task no matter how you try to slice it.

However, if you're a Mac user and wish to rename a lot of files at the same time or just a handful of them, then you you will be pleased to learn that you can rename them in batch instead of one at a time. It's a built-in feature and one which you'll find extremely handy going forward. So, without further ado, let me show you how you can bulk rename files in macOS running on your Mac.

Step 1. First and foremost, find the files and photos you want to rename.

Step 2. Once found, hold down the Shift key on the keyboard and click on the files you want to select and rename.

Step 3. Once selected, right click using the mouse on one of the selected files.

Step 4. Now click on 'Rename' as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 5. A new window will now open up.

Step 6. From the drop-box menu (as shown below) select Format.

Step 7. Now select the Name Format drop-down and select the naming scheme from here.

Step 8. Fill up the Custom Format field with the name you want to use for all files and then click on Rename.

That's it, you've batch renamed a ton of files at once and put order to chaos.

Although there are more options when it comes to renaming files, but this is the bare minimum you should know in order to rename files in bulk - or batch.

If you've spent a major portion of your life renaming files one by one that belonged to a single folder then this tip should help make things far more easier for you. Just select everything, rename and macOS will even do the file numbering for you.

You can even set the name format to show the date next to the name, making it easier for you to go to the file which was modified at a specific date.
