New Elden Ring Patch 1.09.1 Released and ‘Workaround’ for PC Ray Tracing Issue Shared

Elden Ring patch 1.09.1

FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have rolled out Elden Ring patch 1.09.1 across PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

After last month's 1.09 update for FromSoftware's hit title, the team has now rolled out a hotfix that packs some bug fixes and balance adjustments. The deployment of this new hotfix was announced on Twitter just now. Aside from these adjustments and fixes, FromSoftware has also included a short workaround to fix some ray tracing issues on PC, where, occasionally, ray tracing would be enabled by default after having installed last month's 1.09 update. Well, we call it a workaround, but it's basically just logical thinking. If enabled by default, players can disable ray tracing from the title menu of in-game graphics settings. See, no rocket science here.

Also, FromSoftware mentions that if the game becomes unstable or doesn't start properly with Ray Tracing enabled, users should check the minimum and recommend PC requirements.

Elden Ring is available worldwide now across PC and consoles. The title was released back in February of last year and has been an amazing success for both developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco. As reported earlier this year, the game managed to sell over 20 million units in its first year. More recently, the game's creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, received great recognization by making it onto Time Magazine's 100 most influential people for 2023 - quite the accomplishment.

We reviewed Elden Ring upon release last year and praised its world and lore, its open-world and dungeon design, deep combat, and more. "I tried hard to find any faults in Elden Ring, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find any outside of some technical issues that the developers could fix via patches", our very own Francesco de Meo wrote in his review. "I firmly believe that perfection doesn't exist and that it is always possible to improve, but I really couldn't think of anything that Elden Ring could have done better. As such, the game wholly deserves a perfect score, an honor I would have given only to a couple of other modern games, not only for its extremely high quality but also for what it accomplished with its open world and for how it will surely influence video games as a whole in the future."

FromSoftware is currently working on the game's first expansion - Shadow of the Erdtree. This DLC has yet to receive a release date. We'll update you as soon as more information about this expansion comes in.
